about the founder
Barbara DeMore is a retired school administrator living in Sunset Beach, North Carolina. She's 81 years old and enjoys activities such as making cards, reading, and word games.
Barb was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001. She had a lumpectomy followed by radiation treatment. After 6 weeks of radiation, she was certified cancer-free.
Eight years later, in 2009, Barb was on her way to lunch with her grandkids in New Jersey when she received a call—doctors had found more cancer. She received a double mastectomy and underwent 8 months of treatment, which included chemotherapy and radiation.
Throughout her entire cancer journey, Barb received incredible amounts of support from her friends and family and she was filled with a desire to pay it forward and give the same support to other people. So, with the help of her friend Jane Moore, she reached out to her community and started her support group with 6 or 8 people. They started as a breast cancer support group, but have since expanded to help people with all kinds of cancer.
